A beauty of a song is not only projected onto the listener by its haunting melody but also by its lyrics. The most played song on the radio is supposedly the Unchained Melody from the movie Ghost. These are seminal lyrics and timeless music, just like used to be Mozart, Bach, Beethoven or Verdi. When Carl writes a poem, he always asks one question: Will it sustain the test of time? In his artistic effort, he tries not to be local or seasonal. His goal is to touch the hearts of people, regardless of time and age.
The first inspiration for song writing came to Carl when he was writing his first novel Elvis – which he always saw in his mind as an animated musical. He even wrote a screenplay based on the book, still waiting for the ‘kindred spirit producer’ to turn this dream into reality. But there are more songs to come, some based on the Elvis book and some inspired by other experiences. So watch this space:)

The first Elvis song, If You Are an Eagle, That’s the Thing (produced under the title Be Free… like an Eagle) – I wrote on a napkin in a museum gazebo while waiting for my wife, Marta. It was somewhere in Ubud, Bali. No, I don’t know exactly where the museum is.
How did the idea/lyrics come to me? Please do not ask. I don’t know it either. It just came. When we returned to Australia, Marta took over. She found this unknown composer and he hired the perfect singer. I have to say, I was amazed by my wife’s action. The result is simply mesmerizing. Why? I can’t listen to my own song, let alone the lyrics, because it is such a brain-worm. It stays with me and buzzes in my head so long, till I play Mozart’s ‘Requiem’ for a day or two. That seems to work for me like a ‘brain-worm’ eraser. So, be careful.
